Art Over Easy 6 set for Dec. 3 at Surplus Gallery

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Part art show, part art sale, and always an exciting place to be, Art Over Easy 6 returns to the Surplus Gallery on Dec. 3.

The event, planned to run 7-9:30 p.m., is the major fundraiser for the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Held in the Surplus Gallery of the Glove Factory (432 S. Washington Ave. in Carbondale), the starting base or home to many of the artists represented, the annual art auction and gala is a highlight of the local art scene.

An admission price of $30 gets you in the door to enjoy food, wine and other beverages, live music, and of course art and atmosphere.

A silent auction favors those who like their art acquisition on the quiet and patient side, while a live auction invariably provides excitement and entertainment as well as the opportunity to bring home unique pieces of art.

Paul Krainak, a painter and art critic and chair of the Department of Art at Bradley University, juries the sale show. Awards are in various categories, including alumni, student, community, and faculty artists.
