Sustainability Council seeks student member

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- If you are a Southern Illinois University Carbondale student with an interest in campus sustainability, here’s your chance to make a difference.

The SIUC Sustainability Council is now accepting student member applications. The council serves as an advisory group to the chancellor regarding sustainability matters. The new student member will also serve on the Green Fund Committee, which makes funding recommendations regarding use of the monies raised through the $10 per semester student Green Fee enacted in 2009 by the SIU Board of Trustees following overwhelming approval of a student referendum.

There is a long-standing commitment to sustainability at SIUC, according to Ryan Klopf, a doctoral student in plant biology who serves as chair of the Sustainability Council.

Any student may apply for the open position on the Sustainability Council. Find the application online at www.sustainability.siuc.edu. However, the deadline for submitting a completed application, along with a resume, is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5. Send completed applications via e-mail to greenfund@siu.edu.
