Halloween Pops concert set for Oct. 28

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Halloween costumes are so much fun, it’s a pity they are only appropriate one day a year. Well, one day a year and at Halloween Pops, the Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Music Halloween tradition.

This year’s concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 in Shryock Auditorium. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $6 for senior citizens and for students. Children 5 years old and younger are welcome, and are, in fact, admitted for free.

Concertgoers can expect music from a wide cross-section of School of Music ensembles, including the SIUC Wind Ensemble, SIUC Concert Choir, University Chorus, the Studio Jazz Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles.

As in the past, musicians will be costumed, and the audience is invited to come in Halloween finery as well. A costume contest awards creative and ghoulishly suave adults and children in several categories.

Purchase tickets in advance through SouthernTicketsOnline.com or by calling 618/453-6000. Tickets are also available at the Shryock Auditorium Box Office during standard office hours and beginning one hour before the performance.
