Media Advisory -- Environmental Ambassadors

A select group of student volunteers will receive Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Environmental Ambassador Awards during a special ceremony Tuesday, May 4.

Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the presentation at 3 p.m. in the Student Center’s Vermillion Room. Larry Dietz, vice chancellor of student affairs, and Paul Restivo, director of the SIUC Center for Environmental Health and Safety and chairman of Beautify Southern Illinois, will present awards recognizing students who donated 30 or more hours toward environmental organizations and causes during the past academic year.

The Saluki environmental volunteers gave more than 1,000 hours to build forest trails, plant flowers and trees, pick up litter, assist with environmental youth education projects and much more. This year’s 17 awards bring the total of recipients to more than 100 since the first Environmental Ambassador Awards in 2002.
