CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Four members of the SIU Dawg Pound received Mike Reis Scholarships during the Feb. 23 Southern Illinois University Carbondale men’s basketball game against the Creighton Bluejays. Recipients qualified for the scholarships based on participation in the group’s activities during the past academic year.

Awards of $1,500, $1,000 and $500 were presented. Scholarship recipients were Luke Reedy of Sleepy Hollow, Ill. ($1,500), Sam Donets of Glenview, Ill. ($1,000), Kenneth Cronin of Peru, Ill. ($500), and Ian Fuchs of Carterville ($500). Proceeds from the CD audio book "Good Night from Carbondale," chronicling some of Southern’s best athletic broadcast moments through the play-by-play of Mike Reis, "Voice of the Salukis," funded the scholarships.

“Students are the most important people at SIU and to Saluki athletics,” the SIU Alumni Association life member says. “I am glad that the Association agrees that when we do something like this project, the proceeds should benefit students.”

“The Association is excited to be part of a program supporting our students, as this assistance rewards them for showing their school spirit,” says Randy Ragan, president of the SIU Alumni Association National Board of Directors. “It is encouraging to see alumni giving back to their alma mater.”

Mary Roe, a member of the SIU Alumni Association National Board adds, “With the support of alumni like Mike Reis, the University and its students thrive. The Association is excited and pleased to be able assist such students, who are the heart and soul of our University and are this institution’s future alumni.”
