Ten questions with ... Cynthia Sims

Job on campus/department you work in: Assistant professor, Workforce Education and Development

How long at SIUC: Four years

Hometown: Chicago

When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be an author and write many books!

People don’t know that you…are two courses and a practicum away from a fourth graduate degree. I love education!

If you could choose another profession, what would it be and why? I would be a federal agent investigating crimes. I am a very nosy person, and it would be REQUIRED of me to use this “skill.”

What is something you still want to accomplish in life? I still want to be a best-selling author and have Spike Lee and Tyler Perry call and ask me to make movies based on my books.

If you could pick an actor/actress to play you in a movie, who would you pick and why? If Halle Berry were taller, I would choose her. So, I would probably pick Tyra Banks because she has experience as a skinny, somewhat ugly duckling who blossomed into a beautiful person.

Cats or dogs? Neither! Too much maintenance! Maybe a dog when both of my daughters move out.

What is your favorite food and why? I am a fanatic for Jay’s Hot Stuff potato chips because they remind me of childhood walks to the local mom ‘n’ pop store, and I love spicy snacks.

Who has inspired you, and how? Sounds so cliché, but I must say my mother and father inspired me. No matter how down I got/get on myself, they both continue to tell me what great strength I have and what a great person I am. Their love inspires me!

What is your pet peeve? Dirty bathrooms

What would you like your gravestone to say about you? She loved to smile, laugh, love, and serve.
