Popular ‘Meet Me on Main’ event set for Aug. 25
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Games, prizes, live music and free food welcome new and returning students to Southern Illinois University Carbondale during “Meet Me on Main,” from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the Student Recreation Center, courtesy of Carbondale Main Street and the center.
The Sam West Trio will play and there will be free food, soda, water and plenty to do. You can toss washers, toss bags, view demonstrations and check out the giant inflatables. Enjoy free samples and find out about many of the popular downtown shops and restaurants at festival booths.
Experienced upperclassmen from the University will also be leading a series of guided tours of downtown Carbondale with stops at various businesses. Participants in the tour-style scavenger hunt qualify for prizes including $100 cash, round-trip Amtrak tickets to Chicago, gift certificates from downtown businesses and more.
It’s the seventh annual Meet Me on Main Street event; in 2008, more than 1,200 SIUC students participated.
