Students can learn proper dining etiquette

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- How on earth are you to know what all of those forks, spoons, saucers and other things sitting before you on the dining table are for?

Residence Hall Dining and Career Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will give students a chance to learn how to handle dining out with aplomb at the Spring 2009 Professional Etiquette Dinner. Proper manners can mean the difference between success or failure in the corporate or personal world, and the April 8 dinner at Lentz Dining Room 5 will prepare students to do it right.

The event runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and features a five-course meal from University Housing chefs. Participants will learn proper table manners, how to market themselves, how to build a credible professional wardrobe and much more. Office attire is required for those attending.

Students can purchase tickets for the spring etiquette dinner for $15 each at the Residence Hall Dining office on the lower level of Grinnell Hall between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. April 2 is the registration deadline.
