by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Percussion Group, under the direction of the School of Music’s Ron Coulter, presents an evening concert beginning at 7:30 on Sunday, Nov. 2.

The program includes an array of shorter pieces, some of them with guest soloists. Concertgoers can expect to hear “Three Cuban Pieces,” a “Waltz for Percussion,” and a song inspired by the Aztec deity Quetzecoatl among others.

Timothy Pritchford, director of the SIUC Studio Jazz Orchestra, joins the ensemble as trombone soloist for “Mysterious Horse Before the Gate.” Students Josh Fielder and Donovan Reece each perform xylophone solos during the performance. The program also includes a John Cage selection with text written by Gertrude Stein.

The concert is set for Altgeld Hall, Room 112. There is no admission charge.
