Media Advisory -- Scholarship Golf Scramble

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the Southern Illinois University 2008 Presidential Scholarship Golf Scramble on Friday, May 16, at Hickory Ridge Public Golf Center in Carbondale.

The event begins with a lunch for participants at 11 a.m. SIU President Glenn Poshard will make brief remarks at 12:15 p.m., followed by Interim SIU Carbondale Chancellor Samuel Goldman and other officials. A number of scholarship recipients and their families will be on hand. Ten of this year's scholarship recipients will be golfing in the scramble.

The late SIU President James E. Walker established the scholarships in 2001. The scholarships are the most prestigious and most comprehensive that SIUC awards each year, covering tuition, fees, and room and board.

Minimum eligibility requirements for the Presidential Scholarship are an ACT composite score of 29, a 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, leadership qualities and Illinois residency.
