Pianist Eric Fung to perform on Sept. 15

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The School of Music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale kicks off the fall semester with its first guest artist, pianist Eric Fung.

Fung's recital is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall. He will perform Goldberg Variations on Bach Arias and a Johannes Brahms Sonata in F minor from Opus 5.

Fung, who earned his doctoral degree in music from the Juilliard School, placed second in the 2002 Bach Festival in Leipzig. Past performances include a solo performance at Carnegie Hall and appearances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Fung also will teach a master class for SIUC piano students from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. Students will gather at the Old Baptist Foundation building to play selections from J. S. Bach, Haydn and Rachmaninoff.

Admission for the Saturday guest performance is free.
