by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Excitement, adventure and tons of fun packed into five action-packed days await participants in Southern Illinois University Carbondale Touch of Nature Environmental Center's Wild Outdoor Week.

Youths entering grades six-eight this fall can participate in the outdoor adventure extravaganza that features canoeing, swimming, rock climbing, high ropes course, caving, hiking, team building and more. It all wraps up with a family party the final day of each session with families encouraged to enjoy a beach party from 3 to 5 p.m. with snacks and drinks provided.

Part of the Underway Adventure Program, the camp offers participants the opportunity to expand their horizons under the watchful eyes of trained and experienced staff, yet participation in the challenges is voluntary.

Camp sessions are June 4-8 and July 23-27 with registration required by May 21. There is a limit of 20 campers per session. The camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and campers may be dropped off at Touch of Nature Environmental Center's administrative office. There will also be a pick-up at 8 a.m. each day and drop-off at 4:30 p.m. daily at the SIU Arena.
