Marshall named interim director

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Judith M. Marshall, who has more than 20 years of experience in public university accounting, is the interim director of accounting services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Kevin D. Bame, executive director of finance, announced the appointment today (Wednesday, Sept. 8).

Marshall's appointment was effective Wednesday, Sept. 1. The appointment is subject to ratification by the SIU Board of Trustees.

Bame was director of accounting services until his Aug. 1 appointment to his current post. He would like to conclude the regional search for a new director by the end of December.

Marshall, of Carbondale, has worked in various levels in accounting services since coming to the University in 1984. She received her bachelor's degree in accounting from SIUC in 1983. She has completed a variety of professional development courses.

Marshall's experience in accounting services makes her an "excellent choice," said Bame.

"She has a clear understanding of the University's financial operations and she is committed to providing quality accounting and financial services to the University community," he said.

Marshall is in charge of 32 full-time staff and a dozen student workers. She is a candidate for the permanent appointment.

Providing for succession at every level so that there is at least one person prepared to step into an administrative vacancy on an interim basis, at any time, is among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the blueprint for the development of the University by the time it celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019.
