Soccer camps will meet June 14-18

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Young soccer players and their coaches may improve their skills at upcoming training sessions led by a British soccer coach employed by the Challenger Sports company. Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host the training.

Here's the run-down:

Separate morning and afternoon camps -- divided according to players' ages -- will meet June 14-18. Cost is $98 per player.

  • The 8 to 11 a.m. session is reserved for players in grades one through four.

  • The 1 to 4 p.m. sessions will be geared to players in grades five through 12.

  • A free coaches clinic will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15.

Registration is required. Phone the SIUC Division of Continuing Education weekdays at 618/453-5692 or 453-5674 to reserve a spot.

Campers may register by calling Continuing Education's main number at 618/536-7751 or by visiting its Web site athttp://www.dce.siu.edu and then clicking on youth programs.

In addition to drills and skills practice, campers will concentrate on improving their footwork, their technical and tactical skills and will enjoy daily tournament-style play. Campers will also be treated to a rich cultural experience accented by lessons on teamwork, sportsmanship and self-discipline.
