Walter V. Wendler will take the helm as SIUC's chancellor on July 1.

Wendler named new chancellor

Walter V. Wendler, vice chancellor for Planning and System Integration at Texas A&M University system, spent only a day-and-a-half in Carbondale when he returned for his formal appointment May 9, but he managed to meet with news media, campus leadership and city officials and still end the day smiling.

Wendler, 51, will become SIUC's permanent chancellor July 1. His whirlwind tour of Southern Illinois included a lunch with Carbondale Mayor Neil Dillard, City Manager Jeff Doherty, and Carbondale Chamber of Commerce President Mike Kimmel at Murphy's Restaurant.
