Wendler commits $1 million for faculty diversity
A $1 million initiative to attract and retain a more ethnically diverse faculty, student body and staff will take wing in the months ahead, Chancellor Walter V. Wendler announced Sept. 22 during the annual fall faculty meeting. "We will be known for a faculty and a student body that reflects the human and ethnic diversity and intellectual pluralism of the world," Wendler said, reading from a new position paper that will guide the University in its future endeavors. Wendler's commitment will take its place alongside 10 additional campus-wide commitments contained in "Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment," a blueprint released in May that aims to catapult SIUC into the ranks of the nation's Top 75 research institutions by 2019, the year it celebrates its 150th birthday.
