Ask Southern WindowsWithin a Civil Service classification, what steps are used to break ties in seniority? According to Jeff Brownfield, assistant director of the State Universities Civil Service System: "The way the rules are right now, seniority in your particular class obviously starts with the time in your class. That is obviously first and foremost. If you have people who have the same amount of time in a particular classification, the first tiebreaker is your examination score. The second tiebreaker is your amount of service to the University, even if you were in a different classification, if you worked in a different area. And last but not least as far as tiebreakers go, your date of application." Are you curious about something on campus: a rumor, a landmark, policy, procedure, etc.?
