In Memoriam

Carolyn A. Skidmore, 45, former campus transportation operator (1991-1996), died April 8 in Carbondale. Skidmore joined the University as a campus transportation operator for Head Start in January 1991 and resigned in January 1996.

T. Richard Mager
T. Richard Mager, former legal counselor and adjunct professor (1971-1980), died April 11. Mager began his University career as legal counselor in the chancellor's office in February 1971. In July 1972, he added vice president for development and services to his job duties. From August 1975 to June 1978, Mager served as an associate professor in the School of Law. He was an adjunct professor until he left the University in August 1980.

Edwin M. Thomasson, 78, former adjunct assistant professor and researcher II (1992-1997), died April 3 in Carbondale. Thomasson joined the University as an adjunct assistant professor in mining engineering in May 1992. He also served in an extra help position in mining engineering. In November 1993, he became a researcher II for mining engineering, moving to the Illinois Clean Coal Institute in July 1996. He retired in September 1997.

Elwyn E. Zimmerman, 69, emeritus assistant professor of higher education (1958-1988), died March 25 in Carbondale. Zimmerman began his 30-year career at the University in September 1958 as a lecturer and assistant dean of men. In August 1966, he became an assistant professor of higher education and continued to serve as assistant dean of men. Zimmerman moved to the Counseling Center as a counselor in September 1972 and adding the Clinical Center to his counselor duties in 1976. In September 1977, he became a counseling psychologist for both the counseling and clinical centers. Zimmerman ended his career at SIUC as the senior counseling psychologist at the Counseling Center, a position he took in January 1987; counseling psychologist at the Clinical Center and assistant professor of higher education. He retired Dec. 31, 1988.
