SIUC license plate petition drive already a success; signatures still sought

Lots of folks want to show their support for SIUC. In less than a week, the University collected well over the minimum 850 petition signatures required to participate in Illinois' collegiate license plate program.

Chancellor Walter V. Wend-ler unveiled the SIU license plate design at a Jan. 9 news conference, saying the plate will build goodwill for the Univer-sity, help clarify the institution's identity and raise money for undergraduate scholarships.

More than 800 people signed petitions on campus and at basketball games at the Arena on Jan. 11 and 14. In addition, nearly 400 people signed the petition electronically since Monday, Jan. 12, when it became available on the University's Web site at www.siuc.edu.
