As Thanksgiving approaches, I share my thanks to each of you for making SIU a warm and welcoming place for students and colleagues. I remain thankful for the opportunity to serve as your chancellor and to join a campus and community with a bright future. May you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Faculty/Staff Appreciation Coffee is Dec. 1

Chancellor Carlo Montemagno invites the campus community to the Faculty and Staff Appreciation Coffee. The event is from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Dec. 1, in Student Center ballrooms A, B and C. Personal time is not required to be taken to participate in the celebration. The coffee will immediately follow the retirement and service recognition ceremony, where 306 employees will be honored for their service to the university and 124 people who retired between Aug. 1, 2016 and July 31, 2017 will be recognized.  Individuals with disabilities are welcome. ‘The Nutcracker’ comes to Shryock Auditorium

Sugar Plum Fairies, the Mouse King and of course, the Nutcracker Prince, come to Shryock Auditorium for an orchestra and ballet presentation of the holiday favorite, Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” More


The White Witch takes over McLeod Theatre During a Daring Adventure to Narnia 

SIU Theater will treat the region to an encore production of C.S. Lewis’ classic fantasy tale “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” dramatized for the stage by alumnus Joseph Robinette, Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in the McLeod Theater.  More


‘Illinois Ethics Matters’ newsletter available

The monthly Illinois Ethics Matters newsletter for November is available. The Office of Executive Inspector General for the agencies of the Illinois governor publishes the newsletter as a way to stay abreast of current issues relating to ethical matters. The university’s Ethics Office website is at ethics.siu.edu/. The website contains information regarding how to file a complaint and the relevant contact information, as well as many other resources.


Michalesko earns top honor in collegiate photo competition 

Ryan Michalesko, a junior in the School of Journalism’s photojournalism program, earned a Gold Award for his sports portfolio in the 72nd College Photographer of the Year (COPY) competition earlier this month. He is now in Puerto Rico chronicling devastation from Hurricane Maria as part of his Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting fellowship. More


SIU Today holiday schedule 

There will not be an issue on Thursday, Nov. 23, due to Thanksgiving. The last issue prior to Christmas break will be Dec. 14. SIU Today will resume on Jan. 4.
