Firefighters sponsor camp for burn survivors

By Bonnie Marx

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- "Burn survivors have a very high regard for firefighters," said Teri E. Abrams, a social worker in Carbondale who also heads a support group for burn survivors and works with children attending the Southern Illinois Camp for Burned Children held annually at Touch of Nature.

"Camp Adventure," funded entirely by the firefighters, is free to any child who is a burn survivor. She suggests that those who would like to make a contribution to honor the victims of the September attacks consider donating to the burn camp. Carbondale Firefighter Dana MacCrimmon heads the program. Mail donations to the Southern Illinois Camp for Burned Children, P.O. Box 2851, Carbondale, Ill. 62902-2851.
