SIUC to host youth
basketball camps

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale is offering six summer youth basketball camps for those interested in improving their skills in the various aspects of the sport. All camps take place on the SIUC campus.
Each session has a unique age and skill focus. Costs vary from camp to camp.
The SIUC 2008 summer boys' basketball camp schedule includes:
• Saluki Development Camp -- June 6-7, for grades six to 12, focusing on improving offensive skills including passing, ball handling and shooting, along with one-on-one skills. Campers will participate in games and contests and this year for the first time, there will be defensive training. The camp's goal is helping players prepare for today's athletic ability-geared style of basketball.
• Full Day Camp -- June 16-19, for those entering grades three to eight this fall, emphasizing offensive skill development, basic fundamentals of shooting, ball handling and passing, making the camp a perfect fit for young players.
• Saluki Shootout -- June 23-24, for junior high and high school boys' teams. To register for this camp only, contact the SIUC basketball coaching staff at 618/453-4667
In addition, there are three sessions of Junior Saluki Camp, each created for a specific age groups:
• Junior Saluki Camp (kindergarten through first grade this fall) -- June 25-27, introducing children to the basic fundamentals of basketball in a fun, positive environment. The boys will play with smaller balls and lowered baskets as they work to enhance proper technique.
• Junior Saluki Camp (entering grades two to three this fall) -- June 25-27, using lowered baskets and smaller balls, the camp emphasizes basic fundamentals of basketball in a fun and positive format.
• Basketball Half-Day Camp (those entering grades three through eight this fall) -- July 14-17, emphasizing offensive skill development, team play and basic fundamentals of shooting, ball handling and passing.
