2008-09 Parking Decals

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Parking decals for eligible SIUC faculty and staff will be available next month using an innovative online database system that helps streamline the registration process.

The mandatory online registration also eliminates using Social Security numbers on forms, said Brian B. Mager, parking division director. And for a third year, the pre-tax payroll deduction option for faculty/staff vehicle registrations is available.

Users will create a parking account and log in to fill out forms for each of their vehicles. Once the online forms are successfully completed and accepted, users will be able to print out a “proof of submission” form from their computer. Users then present that form, along with their valid driver’s license, SIUC ID and unexpired vehicle registration card to receive their parking decals, Mager said. Faculty and staff can either present their paperwork at the parking division offices, or in the “Decals by Mail” period, Tuesday, July 1, to the close of business on Friday, Aug. 1.

The system will be in place July 1.

Faculty and staff will be required to submit both their AIS number and “Dawg Tag” number on the forms.

Mager said he is thrilled with the new process -- which eliminates Social Security numbers on forms, one step in processing applications, and hopefully reduces the time spent waiting in line.

“It is a much more effective process and an added convenience for our customers,” he said.

Applications for the pre-tax payroll deduction will also be accepted through Friday, Aug. 29. Parking decals for the 2007-2008 academic year expire Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Eligible full-time faculty/staff and part-time faculty/staff who are not enrolled as students may purchase blue decals. Eligible part-time personnel may buy either a red or blue decal. Eligible full-time and part-time faculty and staff may also opt for a free yellow decal only in lots 18 and 56 (south of the Arena) and lot 24 (campus beach).

Parking decal prices are based on an employee’s salary level.

There is a slight increase in decal fees this year -- $10 for the high blue decals and $5 for all remaining decals. Parking decals for additional vehicles -- provided no one else in your household is affiliated with the University -- are now $10, a $1 increase from a year ago.

Mager notes that SIUC parking permit fees remain at the lower range among colleges and universities in Illinois. The fees go toward operations and maintenance costs, upgraded lighting and repaving. One upcoming project will involve the renovation and expansion of Lot 6, north of Morris Library. Once completed, an additional 40 parking spaces, including some for students, will be available.

The 2008-2009 parking decal prices are:

  • High Blue -- $100 for eligible faculty/staff earning $40,000 and over.
  • Medium Blue -- $80 for eligible faculty/staff earning $25,000 to $39,999.
  • Low Blue -- $55 for eligible faculty/staff earning less than $25,000.
  • Red -- $50 for non full-time faculty/staff.

In some instances, some faculty and staff will see a reduction in parking decal fees, Mager said. Checks and money orders should be made payable to SIUC.

The plan is in partnership with Human Resources and the University's Payroll Office. The plan is also in response to an Agility and Efficiency Task Recommendation.

Parking decal costs will be deducted in two payments. The first deduction will be taken in October and the second deduction will be in November. Forms are available at http://www.dps.siu.edu/parking/. For more information, contact SIUC's parking division at 618/453-5369.
