Aviation students win scholarship

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Eleven students enrolled in Southern Illinois University Carbondale's aviation program received scholarships for the fall 2005 semester.
Students learned of the honors during the annual fall aviation banquet, sponsored by the Aviation Management Society, an SIUC registered student organization. Some of the scholarships honor SIUC graduates and all support students enrolled in the aviation program. The more than $35,500 in scholarships is the largest amount of aviation scholarships ever awarded at the fall Aviation in the Future banquet.
Scholarship winners (note: full captions available at the end of the story) by hometown are:
Algonquin: Jennifer L. Byrne (625 Gaslight Dr.), sophomore in aviation flight, National Business Aviation Association, Inc. (NBAA) Ginnochio Scholarship, $5,000.
Belvidere: John-Paul H. Dixon (7894 Monticello Dr.), junior in aviation management, Jerry L. Kennedy Aviation Career Advancement Scholarship, $6,093.
Chicago: Lukasz Zagrodny(5501 N. Lotus Ave.), senior in aviation management, Michael R. Peters – Aviation Interviews.com Aviation Scholarship, $5,000.
Danville: Benjamin A. Cole (1204 N. Franklin), senior in aviation management, Michael R. Peters – Aviation Interviews.com Aviation Scholarship, $4,000; Joseph A. Messina II Aviation Explores Scholarship, $1,000; and the William R. Norwood Aviation Scholarship, $500.
Freeport: Miles D. Bardell (2583 US Hwy 20 E), junior in aviation technologies, National Business Aviation Association, Inc. (NBAA) Ginnochio Scholarship, $5,000; and the Illinois Aviation Trades Association Scholarship, $1,000.
Lombard: Mark T. Freeze ( 113 E Goebel Dr.), sophomore in aviation flight, Michael R. Peters – Aviation Interviews.com Aviation Scholarship, $1,000.

Strengthening the undergraduate scholarship program is among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the blueprint the University is following as it approaches its 150th anniversary in 2019.
