Disc Golf Club plans inaugural 'Friday Night Glo'

By Eric Welch

CARBONDALE, Ill. — If you happen to spot several odd, disc-shaped objects emitting an eerie glow as they hover near campus lake this weekend, save yourself an embarrassing call to 911 and don't scramble for a video camera. These strange flying objects aren't UFOs – they're golf discs, and you could be the one throwing them.

The SIUC Disc Golf Club will sponsor its first Friday Night Glo on April 25 at 9 p.m. at the campus lake boat dock. The nocturnal tournament is open to the public and anyone, regardless of skill level, is welcome to participate.

Disc golfers will play their way around the campus lake course after the sun goes down with the help of LED lights on the baskets and tee pads along with glow-in-the-dark discs. A disc golf prize package will go to the player with the lowest score. In addition, the event will kick off an end-of-the-semester bracket-style tournament, which will decide the top disc golfer on campus.

The club welcomes $5 donations at Friday's event to help cover the cost of equipment. The club will also either provide a glow disc or attach LED lights to a normal one for players who do not own glow discs.
