University Communications provides a full range of communications services to the campus and to media and other outlets around the state and the nation.

We are the central source of information on SIUC. Newspapers and magazines, radio and television stations, webmasters and various other media outlets all rely on us for accurate, timely information about the University. And we produce the campus newsletter, Southern Windows.

Here’s a quick look at some of our most requested services:

• News releases — Our office employs several veteran journalists who prepare written news releases on a wide variety of University events. Scientific discoveries, research activities, creative endeavors, upcoming lectures and cultural events and accomplishments of faculty, staff and students are just a few of the subjects commonly covered. • Still and video photography — Our talented photo staff documents every imaginable aspect of University life. Academic research, field work, cultural events, visiting dignitaries, student life and campus scenics are just a few of the activities they routinely capture on still photos and in videos.

Along with its exhaustive photo library, this unit covers most University activities. Whether it is video news releases, digital photos, or a new portrait, we deliver.

• Public relations, promotions and marketing — Our staff works closely with University leaders to promote SIUC’s identity. We may arrange for University administrators to visit various area leaders and community members, create and place advertisements or work with reporters, connecting them with University experts and providing them with up-to-the-minute information for their news and feature stories.

Additionally, our staff sets up media availabilities and news conferences and produces printed and on-line materials to help alumni, legislators and friends to keep abreast of campus news. For more information, call our office at 618/453-2276.

• Graphic arts and printed pieces — Our graphic artists design ads, brochures, fliers and provide the attractive lay-out, design and oversee the high-quality printing of Perspectives, the four-color magazine devoted to SIUC research, and other top-end published pieces.

• Web site management and related Internet tools — Our staff is playing a pivotal role in the evolving re-design and launch of SIUC’s main Websites. Their new family look and related upgrades are being overseen by our Webmaster along with assistant technical experts, all of whom are recent additions to our staff and are responsible for beefing up the University’s Internet presence. For information and questions about University-related Webpages and tools that may be used on existing and new Websites, contact our office at 618/453-2276.

• Electronic sign messages and on-line calendar listings — Our office handles message requests posted to the big electronic sign outside the SIU Arena. To learn more about this service and to file a request that an upcoming event be posted on the sign, click here.
