Tomasz Wiltowski, Mechanical Engineering and Energy Processes and director of the Advanced Coal Research Center, has been appointed by U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry to serve on the National Coal Council. The council makes recommendations on the coal industry and the future of coal to the energy secretary.

Eric C. Ferré, Geology, was recently nominated for a three-year appointment to the U.S. Advisory Committee for Scientific Ocean Drilling (USAC) starting Oct. 1, 2017. Among USAC’s duties on behalf of the nation’s scientific ocean drilling community is formulating scientific and policy recommendations with respect to the U.S. Science Support Program, and communicate the strategic importance of scientific ocean drilling to the nation’s overall science and education goals.

Erin Perry, Animal Science, Food and Nutrition, is the lead author of an article, “Effects of Air Travel Stress on Canine Microbiome: A Pilot Study,” that appeared recently in the “International Journal of Veterinary Health Science and Research.” She is also author of “Psychological effects of stress related to helicopter travel in Federal Emergency Management Agency search-and-rescue canines,” that appeared recently in the “Journal of Nutritional Science.” 

Shannon S. McDonald, School of Architecture, had a book review of Airport Urbanism by Max Hirsh published in the “Journal of the Transportation Research Forum” for spring 2017. The Transportation Research Forum requested the review, which is available online.

Rolando González-Torres, School of Architecture, published recently an article entitled “Citizen’s Participation and Social Sustainability in the Making of the Built Environment” in the “Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture Research.”

Ahmad Fakhoury, Plant, Soil, and Agricultural Systems, published a new article in “Phytobiomes,” the transdisciplinary journal of The American Phytopathological Society, detailing his latest research into the ability of soil to suppress Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) in soybeans. The article, “Unraveling Microbial and Edaphic Factors Affecting the Development of Sudden Death Syndrome in Soybean,” is available online.

Jeb Asirvatham, Agribusiness Economics, is lead author of an article “Consumer heterogeneity in sugar consumption with special reference to fat and cholesterol intake.” The online article, published in June 2017, is in the “International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition.”
