Media Advisory - Rickert-Ziebold Award

The School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will announce the winner or winners of the Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award, the most prestigious art award at the university, at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3, at the Surplus Gallery in the Glove Factory, 432 S. Washington Ave., in Carbondale. The media is welcome to cover the event.

The annual juried competition is open to senior art students at SIU. The faculty jury may select a single winner or several winners from the finalists. This year, eight finalists participated in the award competition.

The award commemorates Joseph Rickert, a prominent lawyer and former state senator from Waterloo, who loved the arts. His family established the award in his honor in 1974.

The exhibit showcasing all of the finalists' work opens on April 3 and runs through April 7. A reception for finalists begins at 5:30 p.m. on April 7, with an awards presentation at 6:30 p.m. The exhibit includes examples of painting, printmaking, metalsmithing, industrial design and communication design.
