Media Advisory – 4H Horse Bowl
Approximately 100 area students from ages 8 through high school are expected at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Agricultural Building on Saturday, March 25, for the Southern Region 4H Horse Bowl and Hippology Contest. Members of the media are welcome to cover the event. The contestants will check in at 8 a.m. Hippology begins at 8:30 a.m. and Horse Bowl at about 10 a.m. High point team and individual awards are at the end of the contests in the afternoon at the Metabolism and Physiology Indoor Arena (Equestrian Center). Winners are eligible to proceed to state championships. Hippology and Horse Bowl contests give 4H participants the opportunity to demonstrate how much they know about horses in a friendly, competitive setting. The contest requires knowledge of: tack and other riding equipment; feed; basic anatomy – external, internal and skeletal; life cycles of internal parasites; breeds and breed history; color and color patterns, and more.
