‘Coffee with a Cop’ set for Sept. 2 in Student Center

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill.  -- “Coffee with a Cop” returns to Southern Illinois University Carbondale for a second year beginning in September.

The SIU community and public are welcome to stop by Starbucks in the Student Center anytime between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 2 to visit with campus law enforcement officers. It will be an informal, come-and-go time of coffee and conversations. Several officers will attend and chat with visitors, get acquainted and answer any questions. There will be free coffee, while it lasts.

The university’s Department of Public Safety joined the national movement created to build positive relationships between police and citizens during the spring 2015 semester.

Plans call for having Coffee with a Cop monthly, usually early in the month, according to Allan Willmore, sergeant with the SIU Department of Public Safety. Locations and times will be provided via the SIU Facebook page, Twitter and on the Department of Public Safety website
