Student Center to host a variety of events

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Student Center is the location for several special events in March with some specifically for students and some open to the general public.

In celebration of National Puppy Day on Monday, March 23, the Student Center and Student Health Services are teaming with St. Francis Care to bring dogs from St. Francis to the area outside the north entrance of the Student Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  It’s a chance to relieve a little stress visiting with dogs. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the west entrance.

The “Straight Laughs No Giggles Comedy Show” is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at the Student Center Ballrooms. The performance will feature Benji Brown, back by popular demand, along with Ray Lipowski and B Phlat. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

The Student Programming Council Comedy event is co-sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. For more information about the event, visit www.spc.rso.siu.edu or call 618/536-3393.

Spring-o Bingo is an event just for SIU students. It takes place on Thursday, March 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Ballroom D at the Student Center. More than $1,000 in prizes, including University Bookstore gift cards, are up for grabs. Admission is free for those with a valid SIU ID.
