Sports trivia night to benefit two non-profit groups

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Sport Studies Association is partnering with the Carbondale Park District to sponsor “A Splash of Trivia,” with proceeds to benefit the two non-profit organizations.

The event is set for 6-9 p.m. April 10, at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale. The evening will feature seven rounds of trivia action, with a particular focus on sports, including professional and collegiate sports and sports in Illinois. The games begin at 6:30 p.m. and the entry fee is $120 per team with up to six players.

Throughout the evening, there will also be a silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses, a 50/50 raffle, a half-time game, and the opportunity to purchase “mulligans” for $10 each. All items won in the silent auction are to be paid for and picked up the night of the event.  Snacks will be available as well.

Funds raised will go toward the Super Splash Park Outdoor Aquatic Center for Carbondale and for professional development opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in the Sport Studies Association, a registered student organization in the SIU Department of Kinesiology.

The night of fun and games will not only benefit two organizations, but will also help spread the word about SSA and its work at SIU and in the community, according to Bobbi Knapp, faculty adviser and kinesiology assistant professor.

Everyone is welcome at “A Splash of Trivia,” space permitting.  For more information, or to register early, contact Knapp by April 8 at bknapp@siu.edu or by calling 618/453-3324, or visit the Sport Studies Association Facebook page. All payments must be by cash or check. Participants may also register at the event as space allows.
