Workshop will offer hints to aspiring authors

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- If you have a story to tell but don’t know how to go about getting it published, you will want to attend a workshop this month at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center.

The “Publish Your Manuscript Workshop” is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 28 at the Indian Building at Touch of Nature, located about eight miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road. The workshop presenter is Edmond DeRousse, author of “The Adventures of a Common Man,” “Choice and Consequence” and “The Mighty Spartan!”

DeRouse will discuss the publishing process and types of publishing, and what to do after your work has been published. Anyone who has pondered writing something or preparing research to share with others will find the workshop helpful. Previous workshop participants have experienced success in having their work published.

DeRouse, a double alumnus of SIU, is a retired Illinois Department of Corrections educator. His experience also includes time in the U.S. Army and work as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America.

The $50 registration fee also covers a catered lunch and some take-home materials.  Seating is limited and the registration deadline is March 23.

For more information or to register, visit SIU’s Continuing Education and Outreach website at www.continuinged.siu.edu or by calling 618/536-7751.
