Programs earn national recognition

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale continues to earn national accolades for its focus on student success.

The latest achievements are for the university’s online MBA program, SIU Carbondale’s commitment to student military veterans and active duty personnel, and efforts in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

Already ranked among the “Best Online Graduate Business Programs” at No. 51 by U.S. News and World Report, SIU’s four-year-old online MBA program also was recognized by the online ranking and program analysis websites OnlineMBAReport.com and from Top Management Degrees.

The Online MBA Report, from Authority Media, lists SIU’s program at No. 40 among all public schools in the country as well as No. 10 in the Midwest. It also ranks the program No. 7 for MBAs with finance concentrations and No. 18 for MBAs with marketing concentrations.

In addition, SIU claimed a spot in the Top Online MBA Super Ranking for 2014-15, coming in at No. 43 in the nation. The Top Management Degrees ranking is designated a “super ranking” because it combines the results of six of the most influential business school and MBA rankings from around the world to create the ranking, according to website editor Tammie Cagle.

For the eighth consecutive year, Military Advanced Education magazine recognized SIU Carbondale as one of the nation’s 2015 top military-friendly colleges and universities. The magazine’s December issue lists SIU Carbondale as a “Top School, indicative of a school that exhibits best practices in military and veteran education.”

The magazine examined six categories important to service members, veterans, their spouses and dependents – on-campus support services, flexibility, financial assistance, online support services, military culture and general support.

The results of the Military Advanced Education survey will be available online at kmimediagroup.com/mae/latest/

Earlier this week, Victory Media, creator of “STEM Jobs” education, career and media resources for students interested in science, technology, engineering and math careers, listed SIU Carbondale in its inaugural “STEM Jobs Approved Colleges” list. A list of the 123 earning the honor is available at stemjobs.com/2015-stem-jobs-approved-colleges/.

The magazine states more than 1,600 colleges participated in the ratings process. The scores were based on available data and responses to proprietary survey questions around three key indicators of success -- program alignment to job demand, job placement after graduation, and diversity within an institution’s STEM programs.
