Media Availability – Irfan Ashraf

Reporters, photographers and news crews can contact Irfan Ashraf, a Pakistani journalist who spent time with 2014 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai, regarding today’s (Oct. 10) award announcement.

Ashraf is a teaching and research graduate assistant in the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

While working as a journalist in Pakistan, Ashraf spent time with Yousafzai, the young Pakistani girl and education activist. Ashraf's time with Malala, and her subsequent wounding in a 2012 assassination attempt, caused Ashraf to examine his role as a journalist, the ethics of the situation and the safety of sources.

Ashraf can be reached by email at syedirfanashraf@gmail.com. He can also be reached by cell phone at 618/434-0895.
