Media Advisory – Bukowski art exhibition

Works from Marie Bukowski, director and professor in the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will be part of an art exhibition at Gallery 19 in Chicago, beginning April 18. The exhibit, “Untitled Delineation,” runs through May 30. The opening reception is from 6:30 to 10 p.m., Friday, April 18, at Gallery 19, 1967½ W. Montrose Ave.  The gallery’s stated artistic mission is to “redefine the definition and ideas of Modern Art in a postmodern era.” The exhibition features painted, printed and ceramic works. Bukowski joined SIU Carbondale in fall 2013 and is an internationally recognized printmaker, whose work appears in public collections and museums throughout Europe, in particular. She has studied at Carnegie Mellon University, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, and the University of Pennsylvania. As a teacher, she said balance is important -- balance between technique and aesthetics, between assignment and improvisation and with a diversity of opinion in the classroom. Bukowski came to SIU Carbondale from Louisiana Tech University.
