Training for working with student veterans is available

Online training to help faculty and staff effectively interact with student veterans is available through a program offered to public and private schools in Illinois by the state’s Department of Public Health.

The program allows participants to interact with student avatars in scenarios that lasts 30 to 60 minutes and includes tips on military cultural competency, connecting with student veterans and information about available veterans’ support services.  The online, interactive website also has areas for learning about support for students struggling with psychological distress including depression and suicidal thoughts, and LGBTQ students struggling with harassment or exclusion.

Participants will create a login and provide an email address used only to participate in two short pre- and post-training surveys.
