‘Running Rampant’ exhibition in Quigley Hall
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A 12-piece exhibition of Stewart Wessel’s work ushers in the re-opening of the Quigley Hall Gallery on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus.
Wessel, a professor in the School of Architecture, creates works from wood that, in their lines and shapes, reflect his interest in music as well as his interest in architecture. He emphasizes the natural grain of the wood, and tends to work in American hardwoods.
His exhibit, “Running Rampant,” runs through Oct. 4. A reception is from 5 to 6 p.m., today, Sept. 25, and includes refreshments.
Peter Smith, an associate professor in the School of Architecture, describes the event as a “soft opening” that will precede the gallery’s reopening scheduled for March 2014. Smith said one of the features in the newly refurbished gallery is the option to take out wall panels, which will open up the facility -- a feature put to good use in this exhibit.
The gallery is 119 Quigley Hall. Architecture students use the gallery for art and architecture displays and the school’s lecture series. Faculty exhibits also give students a chance to connect with their professors through finished work.
