Community expo will feature resource information

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale is among several organizations from throughout the region that will provide resource information for veterans and the public during a community expo next week.

SIU’s Department of Human Resources, along with the procurement services office, will be offering information at the Carbondale Community Resources Expo, Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 4-5, at the Carbondale Civic Center, 200 S. Illinois Ave.  The event runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.

The event will bring together resources that focus on health, nutrition, key lifestyle changes, jobs and public safety, said Imanda DeWalt, event organizer and Marion VA Medical Center EEO manager.  There will also be short training seminars on a variety of subjects.

Vendors will include the American Red Cross, City of Carbondale, Carbondale Police Department, Carbondale Women’s Center, the H-Group, Illinois Department of Employment Security, Illinois’ Division of Rehabilitation Services, Jackson County Health Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the local unemployment office, USA Federal Jobs, VA Contracting and VA Healthcare.

The Marion VA Medical Center and the city of Carbondale, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Human Services’ Division of Rehabilitation Services and SIU Carbondale are hosting the event.
