Saluki softball camps will sharpen players’ skills

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Two summer softball camps at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will give aspiring softball players of all ages the opportunity to improve their pitching, hitting and defensive skills.

The Saluki Softball Hitting and Defense Camp is June 18, 19, and 20 at Sports Blast, 1215 E. Walnut St., Carbondale.  The camp meets from 9 a.m. to noon.  The camp is open to any players entering first- through eighth grade.  The campers receive personalized instruction at their defensive positions; the hitting portion of the camp focuses on hitting and bunting and station work.

The cost is $100 per participant.

The Saluki Softball Pitching Camp is July 16 and 17 at the Student Recreation Center on the SIU campus.  The camp is from 1 to 3 p.m. both days.

The camp is open to anyone in grades 1-12.  This camp will focus strongly on throwing specialized pitches.  Players will receive personalized instruction utilizing many drills.  This camp has a one-to-five coach-to-camper ratio allowing for more individualized instruction.

The cost to participate is $80.
