Camp for girls will focus on science, engineering

by Kristen George

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Girls can excel in and enjoy engineering and science and the Girls in Engineering and Science Day Camp at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is proof of that.

Continuing Education and Outreach, in collaboration with the Colleges of Engineering and Science, will be offering the popular Girls in Engineering and Science Day camp for young ladies in grades six to eight who have an interest in or passion for science and engineering.

Girls in Engineering and Science Day Camp will take place June 10, 11 and 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at SIU’s College of Engineering.   The camp’s three-day program is for girls who will enter sixth, seventh or eighth grade in the fall.  They will learn about engineering and science through hands-on experiments as well as through demonstrations and conversations with faculty and students from the College of Engineering and the College of Science. The camp seeks to engage girls’ interest in engineering and science so they may assume roles as the next generation of engineers/scientists.

Registration is $100 for all three days.  Enrolment is limited so registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  The registration deadline is June 3.
