Annual Agriculture Industry Day is April 19

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Agricultural industry careers attract students from all walks of life, but the tradition of farming families is solid in the agricultural world.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Agricultural Sciences will play host to its ninth annual Agricultural Industry Day this week.  This year’s event is Friday, April 19. 

The University hosts high school aged-students from throughout the region for a day of livestock judging and horticulture contests, and the opportunity to tour some of the College of Agricultural Sciences’ facilities.  More than 700 high school students typically attend this event.

The schedule for the day includes:

  • Livestock judging contest, 9 a.m., Bull Test Barn, Rowden Road.
  • Horticulture Contest, 9 a.m., Agriculture Building.
  • Barbeque Lunch, noon, Bull Evaluation Center Tent, Rowden Road.
  • Award Presentations, 12:30 p.m., Bull Sale Arena, Rowden Road

Awards categories include: top 10 teams overall, the top 10 individuals, the top five individuals in the categories of sheep, swine, and beef cattle judging, and top five alternates overall.
