‘Springfest’ comes to SIU Carbondale April 17

by Tiana Russell

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Programming Council (SPC) Concerts Committee will present Springfest 2013 on April 17, at the SIU Arena.

This live concert will feature YouTube sensation Sammy Adams, electronic artist “3lau,” and special guest Air Dubai.  The event is set to start at 7:30 p.m.  The concert is open to the public.  SIU Carbondale students pay just $5 with a student ID.  General admission tickets are $20.  All seating is general admission.

Adams rose to popularity when his YouTube video went viral.  His debut single, “Blow Up,” describes life for this rising young artist.  He has built his fan base by touring and through his independently released album, “Boston’s Boy,” which shot to the top of the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart its first day out in March 2010.  It sold nearly 8,000 digital copies that week.

“3lau,” also known as Justin Blau, is a DJ and musician from the electronic music scene.  His high-intensity, action-packed performances feature an eclectic blend of sounds and lights.

Denver-based band Air Dubai performs a mix of hip-hop, pop, soul, rock and electronic.  To date, the seven-piece band’s releases include “Wonder Age” and “Day Escape.”  The group’s new single, “Warning,” was on MTV’s Buzzworthy Blog March 8. The band earned Westword magazine's “Best Hip Hop Band” of 2010 and 2011.

Tickets are now on sale at the SIU Arena Ticket Office, online at siusalukis.com/ under the SPC Concerts tab, or by phone at 877/725-8547.
