Student government, trustee petitions available

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale students have the opportunity to be involved in student and SIU government.

Petitions are now available for three different offices.  Students may be candidates for president or vice president of the Undergraduate Student Government organization at SIU Carbondale, or for the position of student trustee on the SIU Board of Trustees.

All positions are open to students in good academic standing who submit 200 or more signatures on a nominating petition.  Students may pick up petition packets in the Student Government Office on the third floor of the Student Center by the appropriate deadline and return when complete.

Undergraduate students may run for the Undergraduate Student Government executive positions, helping make decisions affecting the University’s student body.  The petitions are due by 4 p.m., March 30.

The student trustee position on the SIU Board of Trustees is open to all undergraduate, graduate and professional students.  The trustee serves as the student representative on the SIU system’s Board of Trustees.  Petitions are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8.

Specific requirements and expectations for candidates are included in each petition packet.

A mandatory, pre-campaign meeting is set for 4 p.m. on April 3 at the Student Center for all candidates.
