Friends of Morris Library to honor Brown
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Margaret Kimball Brown is the recipient of the 2013 Delta Award from the Friends of Morris Library at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Brown will receive the 37th annual award at a ceremony set for 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, in the John C. Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library. Brown will speak about her archaeological and preservation work. The public is welcome to attend the free presentation. A reception will follow in the first floor rotunda.
Brown, of Red Bud, was site manager for the Cahokia Mounds Historic Site from 1984 to 1998, and worked in a number of other conservation positions, including nearly a decade as staff archaeologist/chief archaeologist for the Illinois Department of Conservation. She served on the Illinois Humanities Council Board and the Illinois Historic Sites Advisory Council and was a charter member of both the French Colonial Preservation Society and the Center for French Colonial Studies.
Brown earned her bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Minnesota and holds master’s and doctoral degrees in anthropology from Michigan State University. She has numerous publications to her name, including many focusing on French colonization in the region.
