Media Advisory -- Engineering Day

Southern Illinois University Carbondale will welcome about 400 high school students from around the region as they explore the world of engineering at the 32nd annual Engineering Day on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

The events will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at various locations in the College of Engineering Building’s A and E, as well as outside the buildings.  Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to attend.  Watch for signs.  The best opportunities to obtain good photographs, videos and stories will take place from about 9 a.m. to noon.

The College of Engineering and its Registered Student Organizations are sponsoring the Engineering Day to introduce teens to engineering contests through a series of “Mind Games” and activities.  The games include a marshmallow launch, a card tower, “puff mobiles,” a catapult pingpong launcher, bottle launchers, a laser maze and much more.

Engineering Day  is part of the worldwide Engineering Week, a tradition that dates to 1951 that honors engineers and engineering achievements.
