by Tiana Russell

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Dawgs Nite Out 2013 starts the spring semester at Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a variety of games, food, and activities for all Salukis.

The event is from 8 p.m. to midnight, Friday, Jan. 25, at the Student Center.  All SIU Carbondale students are welcome, and most of the activities are free for students with a valid University ID card.  Various other activities are available at minimal cost.

Students will be eligible to win free prizes with some of the activities.

Held at the beginning of each semester, Dawgs Nite Out will feature a new lineup of fun-filled activities.  From glow mini-golf and glow laser tag, the range of activities for students includes caricatures and an air graffiti wall -- a large smartboard-style device that students can use to create their own designs.  There will also be the opportunity for students to make their own music video.

There are also various craft shop activities for students, including glow wax hands, henna tattoos, and “Random Acts of Kindness Jewelry.” For those wanting to compete, cosmic bowling and billiards will be available for $1 per game.  There will also be a 9 p.m. showing of the film, “Paranormal Activity 4,” which is free for students.

Many of the Student Center’s businesses and restaurants will also offer discount pricing and specials throughout the evening, including from Dippin’ Dots, Starbucks, and McDonalds.

There will be a free late-night pancake breakfast, which will include sausage, biscuits and gravy.

Dawgs Nite Out sponsors include Recreational Sports and Services, University Housing, Student Health Services-Wellness Center, New Student Programs, Student Center and the Student Programming Council.
