‘Zumba for Hope’ event to assist cancer patients

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Proceeds from an exercise dance fitness event at Southern Illinois University Carbondale next week will go to assist cancer patients in the region.

"Zumba for Hope," sponsored by the SIU Student Recreation Center and the SIU Business Leadership Council, a registered student organization, is from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the center. Money raised will go to the Southern Illinois Healthcare Cancer Foundation's Cancer Center, which will use the funds to help address needs of cancer patients in the region.

Participants are seeking sponsors as they Zumba for a cure. The event will also feature T-shirts, door prizes and raffles.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

All donations are tax-deductible. Donations should be payable to SIH Foundation, and sent to the attention of Michelle Sirles, 1239 E. Main St., P.O. Box 3988, Carbondale, IL 62902-3988.
