Extern Program applications now available
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The SIU Alumni Association is now accepting applications for Southern Illinois University Carbondale students to participate in its award-winning extern program. The application deadline is Nov. 16 at 4 p.m.
Students will participate during the University's spring break March 11-15. Application forms, along with information on the program's policies and application instructions, are available on the SIU Alumni Association's website at www.siualumni.com/extern.
Established in 1984 by the SIU Alumni Association in 1984, the Extern Program provides students a professional experience in their chosen career fields. The program matches students with SIU Carbondale alumni and friends, and allows students to apply skills learned in the classroom in a professional work environment. The program enhances the students' college education and helps them clarify their career objectives and goals.
Each year, nearly 150 SIU Carbondale students complete externships throughout the United States. The Extern Program last year placed students in a variety of businesses and institutions, including Advanced Technology Services, Inc., A&E Television Networks, Aisin Mfg. Illinois, Black Diamond Harley-Davidson, Boeing, Chicago Blackhawks, Country Music Television, Deloitte, International Swimming Hall of Fame, John G. Shedd Aquarium, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, and Transamerica Financial Group.
The SIU Alumni Association Board of Directors awards travel assistance to help externs with the expense of traveling to the students' extern location.
