Center for Inclusive Excellence will host event

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The new Center for Inclusive Excellence at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is open, and the staff will host a welcoming event next month.

A "meet and greet" for all Salukis is set for 4-6 p.m. Sept. 6 in rooms C319-C326 in Woody Hall.  The center, a part of Student Life and Intercultural Relations, focuses on inclusive excellence in teaching, research and learning as well as campus programming, student support and community relationships.

The University created the center in late 2011 with an effort on coordinating, mentoring and connecting the various minority-serving student groups on campus.  The center incorporates the three existing campus resource centers -- the Black Resource Center, Hispanic Resource Center and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Resource Center.

Sapphire C. Cureg is the new director of the Center for Inclusive Excellence.
